Here is an honest, standard-based answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"dauerbetrieb-vs-peak\">Continuous operation, short-term, and peak temperature \u2013 where the difference lies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The values in a silicone compound data sheet are not a single number, but three different ones:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Continuous operating temperature<\/strong> \u2013 Temperature at which the material maintains its specified mechanical values over a long period (typically several thousand hours).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Short-term load capacity<\/strong> \u2013 Peaks over minutes\/hours, for example, when starting up a system or during compressed air purging; the compound is subjected to higher stress but holds up.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Peak temperature<\/strong> \u2013 Seconds to a few minutes; often specified as &#8220;up to 300 \u00b0C short-term&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Marketing likes to quote the highest number. Here, the glass fabric resists the heat, and the internal silicone serves as a binder and radiation shield. High-temperature compounds extend the continuous range up to +250 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can silicone withstand 300 \u00b0C?<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Short-term yes \u2013 high-temperature silicone compounds withstand peaks up to +300 \u00b0C. Continuous operation at 300 \u00b0C is unrealistic for silicone elastomers; above this temperature, thermal-oxidative aging accelerates significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the purpose of the fiberglass braiding?<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>It acts as external heat and fire protection, for example, to shield other components from radiant heat or sparks. It does not change the medium temperature that the inner silicone hose\/tube can withstand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which silicone hose\/tube is suitable for the engine charge air area?<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Charge air reaches 130\u2013200 \u00b0C in continuous operation and more short-term, depending on the supercharging; at the same time, there is high internal pressure. Here, <strong>fabric-reinforced high-temperature silicone hoses\/tubes<\/strong> with pressure-absorbing fabric (e.g., multi-layer polyester\/aramid) are used \u2013 exactly the application field of classic &#8220;tuning silicone hoses\/tubes&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens to silicone when it gets too hot?<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>It first post-cures (compression set and hardness increase), becomes more brittle, loses elongation at break, and finally begins to chalk on the surface. In case of fire, a non-conductive SiO\u2082 ash layer forms, which is why silicone is specified in many fire protection applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is heat-resistant silicone automatically food-safe?<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>No. Heat resistance is a physical property, food safety is a regulatory one.
